Background

Komo’s founders were poised to launch their U.S. operations and secure their next round of funding. As a tech company on the cutting edge, Komo was riding a wave of growing Monthly Recurring Revenue (MRR) and expanding team size. However, the six values crafted years ago by the founders no longer aligned with their aggressive growth goals. With team expansion across multiple locations, Komo needed more than inspiring words—they needed values that would drive clarity, connection, and sustained high performance.

Challenge

The founders recognized that, while the existing values had served their purpose in Komo's early days, they weren't igniting action or resonating deeply with the team. In fact, 90% of the team couldn’t recall the values—a sign they weren’t meaningful, memorable, or motivational. These values didn’t offer a competitive edge, didn’t effectively drive performance, and only sometimes guided decisions. The need for a refreshed approach was clear.

The Solution: ValueBull’s Values-Led Culture Activation

In the breathtaking setting of Margaret River, WA, ValueBull worked with Komo’s team to co-create a system to power their next growth phase. Through a series of design-thinking exercises, the team surfaced the “3 Things That Matter Most” (T3P) that would provide the guiding principles and culture focus to drive Komo forward.

Defining the T3P:

Using ValueBull’s Archetype Framework, the Komo team pinpointed their top three prioritised archetypes:

  • ENERGY
  • INNOVATION

Building the System: Creative Expressions and WOWs

With the T3P identified, ValueBull led Komo through the process of converting these archetypes into Creative Expressions that would be meaningful, memorable, and motivational for every team member. The result was a set of expressions that resonated deeply:

  • CHOOSE TODAY – Empowering every team member to act decisively and seize the moment.
  • YOU GET WHAT YOU GIVE – Reinforcing a culture of reciprocal energy and commitment.
  • ADD A STAR – Encouraging innovation and going above and beyond in every interaction.

To ensure these values translated into actionable behaviour, ValueBull crafted 9 WOWs (Ways of Working) that provided specific guide rails for team behaviour. This system was designed to help each Komo team member bring their best, align with Komo’s ambitious objectives, and drive sustained growth.

Launch and Impact

At Komo’s annual company conference, the new values-led culture system launched with a high-energy team challenge. Teams were tasked with creating a 60-second video to bring one of the values to life, igniting excitement and engagement from every corner of the organisation.

Since implementing the values-led culture:

  • Team alignment has significantly increased, with employees now rallying around clear, actionable values.
  • Engagement has surged, as team members feel more connected to Komo’s mission and the part they play in its success.
  • Performance metrics are tracking upward, as employees bring their “brilliant best” to each area identified by the WOWs.
